Instructors

There is no difference in who started to study first; the one who achieves accomplishment is first.

Connecticut Wing Chun Instructor Program.

To become an instructor in the Kung Fu Style of Wing Chun takes sweat, blood, bruises and years of dedicated practice and sacrifice. I am not in the business of selling belts, or taking financial advantage of my students by withholding information that they have proved they are worthy to learn. The classical Wing Chun system should be able to be completed in about 5 years. If the student is dedicated, practices outside of class, and has the determination to carefully build themselves.

What I look for in an instructor is; near flawless execution of the 6 traditional forms of Wing Chun (mastery takes a lifetime), ultra high level of skill when demonstrating our classical drilling methods. A superior ability to stay with in the Wing Chun formula when pressured by various attacking styles at the highest of speed and power. Whether it be boxing, kick boxing, grappling or Wing Chun vs Wing Chun.

When a student possesses the highest Level of empty handed skill, they are deemed “ready” to start their weaponry training. A Black Sash, means that the student is a disciple of Sifu Andy DiGuiseppi and an inheritor of our lineage. What these instructors choose to do with their Wing Chun is up to their own vision for the way they wish to live their lives and travel their path. It is an honor for me to have been graced by such gifted and respectful souls allowing me the tremendous task and honor of passing on my Sifu’s legacy to the next generation.

With respect.
-Sifu Andy DiGuiseppi
Head Instructor of Connecticut Wing Chun

Sifu Andy DiGuiseppi.

I began my formal martial arts journey in September of 1999 at aged 19. Having a background in extreme outdoor sports, I found Wing Chun training a natural and obvious addition to my long list of athletic hobbies.

My first exposure to Wing Chun came from the man I called “Sifu”, the late Kevin Becker, head master of Becker Wing Chun.  From day one, I dedicated my life’s schedule to never miss a class. The experience of rapid growth and personal development, was what kept me going. With an insatiable appetite for more skill and knowledge.  It seemed to me that I had finally found a place where I belong.  Having always wanted to express my inner warrior spirit.

I completed his system of Wing Chun in March of 2005 and continued to train and study with him until his passing in 2009.

Sifu’s place in my life’s journey has served as first catalyst, aiming me toward the vast horizon of martial knowledge ahead of me.

I believe that once you get a solid foundation in the Wing Chun Art, adding additional cultural exposure is a must. So I’ve tried to learn anything I could get my hands on from any one willing to share.

The masters and systems I have received instruction in and by, are listed below, in order of experience:

Along with the hand to hand training I’ve also been fascinated and humbled by the study of weaponry.
Once you start down the path of weaponry training, your empty handed art will never be the same. It will most certainly double your touch sensitivity and level your mind for the reality of life and death situations. The Study of weaponry is a must for any one looking to become a fully well rounded martial artist.  The reality of lethal weaponry is not to be taken lightly.

I coach the core knowledge and classical drilling routines for the following weapons:

Wing Chun Baat Cham Do, double butterfly swords.
Wing Chun Look Dim Boon Gwan, 6 and 1 half point pole.
Filipino Kali Sword & Knife.
Filipino Escrima 28″ Rattan Stick, single and double baston.
Indonesian Silat Karambit, tiger claw knife.
Filipino Kun Tao Dulo Dulo, palm stick.

Sifu Mike had many years of Wing Chun experience from various friends that practiced and shared knowledge and skill with him. So when he began studying with Sifu DiGuiseppi, he already had a great deal of Wing Chun skill and was able to master anything he was taught with relative ease. Sifu Jake Lavallee.

Qualified to teach the 3 boxing forms, the wooden dummy and the 2 weaponry forms.

Martial Biography:
Jake LaVallee was born in 1980 and as kid definately grew up on kung fu theatre. He used to go to his grandpa’s house on sundays and watch all day. When he was in second grade he talked my parents in to sighning him up for Karate lessons at East West Karate. He managed to make it to yellow belt, the first promotion level. He eventually moved and had to stop studying.

When he turned 16, got transportation and a job, he looked around his area for martial arts and eventually settled on New Century Kempo. (Off shoot of Tracy system) The style was American Kempo with Kick Boxing and groung grappling. Jake studied for  4 years there from 1996-2000 which was early for MMA and a lot of the sport he studied was Shoot Fighting. Financial changes ended his studies at this school. Final rank was a Green belt, the 5th promotion at that school.

In 2000 he found traditional 5 animal style at a school named White Lotus. His first few classes left him in amazement in the difference between past training and what was being newly presented. While training at White Lotus he eventually decided that it was time to make sure that the skills he was collecting worked, so he got a job as a bouncer in downtown Hartford and now have more than 8 years of experience with practical applications and real  life scenarios. Jake stayed with White Lotus until the public classes ended aound 2004. He earned a Final rank of assistant instructor.

After a break he began searching for some more kung fu. He was expecting that all the Fu he would find would be similar to the traditional animal style. In his words “I was wrong. I found Sifu Andrew Diguiseppi and after I took my first class I was hooked. We covered stance work, form work and application, as well as a good warm up.” His search had ended.

Sifu Jake began training at Connecticut Wing Chun under Sifu DiGuiseppi in 2006. He joined the group classes and proved to be a very quick study. His strength and coordination, from his previous training, gave him a firm foundation to master Wing Chun techniques quite easily.
Sifu Jake displayed a very high level of dedication, respect and effort through out his training. Pushing hard to set the bar for other students, both in sparring and technique drilling.

Sifu Jake earned his instructorship and wooden dummy level in 2009, where he then assisted Sifu DiGuiseppi with the instruction of the other students. Sifu Jake has a fast, yet power style with a perfectly solid foundation in the Wing Chun formula. His previous training in Kung Fu assisted greatly in his development of Wing Chun’s sensitivity and structure. His powerful stance, strong posture, and ultra high level of technique execution make him a formidible fighter.

In 2011, after many years of dedication and hard training he was given his Black Sash and completion of the system under Sifu Andy DiGuiseppi. Sifu Jake’s tremendous talent, dedication and high level of respect make for obvious reasons for him to be trained well. He possesses the highest level of fighting skill and comprehension of Wing Chun. Any one who gets an opportunity to train with Sifu Jake will greatly benefit from his vast real life experience and expert ability to transfer knowledge.
