I have had the pleasure to have trained with and under Sifu Andy.
As my Si Hing he has helped guide and mold my understanding of Wing Chun.
He is a tribute to Sifu Kevin Becker and I know he will never let his teachings fade away.
Sifu Andy is a testament to the meaning of Kung Fu.
He is tremendous in his ability to Advocate, Innovate and Apply the Knowledge.
His willingness to learn and accept knowledge allows him the ability to expand upon traditions passed on. It also reveals his humility as a Sifu, something many teachers may never learn and why they often fail. If you ever get a chance to learn from Sifu Andy you should consider yourself lucky to touch hands with him. His teachings help define Wing Chun in Modern Times - Sifu/Guru Clint San Antonio. I picked Wing Chun because I believe it is a highly refined fighting system with a mature curriculum. An ancient system developed based on ancient Taoist philosophies and principles. These principle of ‘yin and yang’ apply to every aspect of this martial art but also to our daily lives. So once I picked the art form to study, I needed to find the right school. I did my research online and I was most impressed with the information Sifu Andy made available to showcase his school. I talked to Sifu Andy before I started and I found him to be very open and encouraging, even though I have no martial arts experience. I joined the class and now I only wish I had time to train every night. Connecticut Wing Chun is a very professional school that welcomes people of any ability to join so long as their intention is true and their mind is open. -Josh Monroe, CT I have practiced other martial arts before, but attending CT Wing Chun was my first step into the world of Kung Fu. Since the first time I contacted Sifu Andy he was very helpful and enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of Wing Chun principles, applications as well as it's history. He is not only a terrific fighter, but also a very attentive and helpful instructor. As proof, all you have to do is chi sao with him or one of his senior students and you'll know exactly what I mean. - Sean Rogers New Haven, CT Your teaching was clear and concise, you kept us moving and learning and your style and attitude respected the long martial tradition of wing chun without wandering into gratuitous machismo or head-bashing aggression. - John H. |
Although I have only been training with Sifu Andy for a little under a year, I already know I will never again be able to think of Wing Chun without thinking of him. If that sounds extreme the only thing I can say is to sit in on one of his classes and see for yourself. The proof is in my own experience, when I first visited his classes it was to make sure my friend who found him wasn’t signing up at a scam school. Despite having no intention of joining myself when I saw his class I signed up right then and there and haven’t stopped since.
Sifu Andy personifies all the characteristics of an excellent kung fu teacher, I say this with confidence having studied various styles of kung fu for the last 8 years at a few different schools. His passion for the practice and mastery of the art is both obvious from the first time you meet him, and infectious where you’ll become just as excited to master whatever he has to show you. And rest assured, he will have a lot to show you. It takes more than passion to be a good teacher though; it takes humility, compassion, and a complete understanding of what you’re explaining. Sifu has all of these in spades. Regardless of how large the class size gets Sifu Andy will still know exactly where you are in your own personal training journey and will guide you as you need it. While everyone needs the same basics, as with any art, he sets aside the “one size fits all” approach to teaching a system and instead will know exactly what you need to work on and how you can improve it. Another noticeable trait that makes all the difference is Sifu Andy’s complete lack of ego when it comes to teaching. He has no need to prove that he’s more skilled than anyone else and because of that he’s able to turn every time you practice with him into a valuable lesson. When training with him he will allow you to take advantage of a move or technique you’ve found despite whether or not he could counter at that time. That being said he still won’t be a push over and if you show a weakness or an opening he will not hesitate to show you by taking advantage of what you give him. Overall regardless of what I write here, the best way to see what I mean is to experience it firsthand. In my experience with martial arts schools CT Wing Chun is one of the best and really exemplifies authentic kung fu and I could not recommend this school highly enough. - Matt Timlin Hartford CT |
